With the Autumn/Winter 2026–27 collection, we introduce The Outerwear Academia—a creative direction that moves beyond the traditional collegiate aesthetic into the more evocative and immersive world of Dark Academia. Inspired by historic libraries, ancient corridors, dimly lit interiors, rich wood finishes, and luxurious textiles, this universe feels inherently familiar to us. It is built upon the same values that have shaped our work for more than a century: heritage, mystery, and sophistication.
In The Outerwear Academia, the university is more than a cultural reference—it becomes an atmosphere. Lecture halls transform into shadowed corridors, study desks into aged wood, and every setting evokes a suspended moment between past and present. Within this evocative backdrop, outerwear naturally takes center stage: not simply as a garment for colder weather, but as the narrator of a story told through refined details, rich textures, and an almost cinematic sense of tension.
Coats, jackets, and bonded garments become the protagonists of a narrative built on layering and details that reveal themselves gradually, like the pages of a rare volume preserved in a historic library. This vision of outerwear is deeply rooted in our identity. Throughout our history, fleece and double-faced constructions have represented structure, warmth, and character—qualities that we reinterpret today through a contemporary, editorial lens.
The Outerwear Academia is, above all, an opportunity to showcase the essence of Maggia materials. The noble fibres we process at our Occhieppo Superiore mill—wool, cashmere, and viscose—naturally lend themselves to this narrative. Dense surfaces, a rich and substantial hand feel, and generous drape create a depth that interacts beautifully with light, as though these fabrics were designed to be admired in softly lit interiors before they are even worn. It is the same relentless pursuit of exceptional materials that has guided our family for nine generations, now expressed through a renewed creative vision.
The Outerwear Academia has been conceived as a more editorial proposal than our previous seasonal collections. It is designed to be communicated through atmosphere, lighting, and carefully crafted details before focusing on the garments themselves.
This aesthetic approach allows us to fully express our expertise in materials—the distinctive signature that has always set Maglificio Maggia apart within the renowned Biella textile district. With The Outerwear Academia, we continue to interpret outerwear as we always have: not simply as clothing for the colder months, but as a field of research, memory, and timeless sophistication.
