The history of a company is not measured solely by its production achievements, but also by its ability to preserve and enhance its cultural heritage, transforming it into an ongoing dialogue with the local community.
With this spirit, Maglificio Maggia is proud to take part in the new exhibition project, "Memory in Motion – From Thread to Gesture", a multi-site initiative exploring the profound connection between Biella's textile tradition, entrepreneurial culture, and the evolution of sport.
Promoted by the Cultural Association Tacafile, the project aims to illustrate how the textile industry has accompanied the movement of the human body and technical innovation over time, transforming raw materials into identity, style, and performance.
We are pleased to invite you to the opening event, which will officially launch this cultural journey.
The inauguration will take place on Friday, 26 June 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at APD Pietro Micca – Accademia dello Sport in Biella, a symbolic venue in the sporting history of our region. During the event, the exhibition's concept and the structure of the multi-site exhibition itinerary will be presented in detail, together with the valuable contributions of the participating corporate archives and sports associations.
The rich programme of events scheduled through 31 October 2026 will also be unveiled, all dedicated to exploring the fundamental role of textiles in the evolution of technical sportswear and sporting practice. A special moment will be devoted to the screening of "Memory in Motion", a stop-motion film created by the students of the Mosso-Valdilana Middle School under the coordination of artist Michela Cavagna.
For us, this exhibition represents a precious opportunity to open our historical archives and share an extraordinary chapter of our story: our relationship with tennis between 1976 and 1984. During those years, our brand established itself on the international stage, bringing the aesthetics and vibrancy of Italian design to the world's most prestigious tennis courts.
The iconic circled "M" accompanied legendary athletes such as John Newcombe, Vitas Gerulaitis and Billie Jean King, helping to define a new sporting aesthetic characterised by colour, comfort, and recognisability. The exhibition will not merely pay tribute to the past; it will also build a bridge to the present. We will showcase how this legacy continues to thrive today through our support of young talents such as Stefano Napolitano, our partnership with the Biella Tennis Academy, and the re-edition of iconic garments in collaboration with Golden Age of Tennis.
"Memory in Motion" unfolds across several venues throughout the Biella area, involving historical organisations such as Fondazione Famiglia Piacenza and Filati Buratti, thereby offering a collective vision of our industrial district as a laboratory of creativity and memory.
We invite you to join us on 26 June and discover a journey that transforms textiles into storytelling, celebrating the athletic gesture and the entrepreneurial vision that have guided our path for nine generations.
Admission to the event is free.
